From the time that most people are little, they envision themselves growing up, going to college, getting married, landing the perfect job, having children and enjoying a fun and entertaining lifestyle. While many of us do these things, most of us with children now know how disillusioned we were when we thought we could be parents and live a fun and entertaining lifestyle all at the same time. Well, it is possible to still have fun and be entertained during the parenting years, but it’s just not as easy as it was before parenthood.
One of the biggest things most parents can relate to is the fact that their pre-parenthood lives have somehow disappeared. Many young couples enjoy a lot of the same hobbies as single people before they have kids. For example, before parenthood you may have enjoyed hobbies such as going out to the clubs, participating on a bowling league, going to the races, hitting the casinos, etc. However, once you had children all of this changed. It’s not that easy to take your kiddos to the bowling alley, the racetrack, the club or the casinos… so, most parents opt to stay at home during these years. However, you can still find ways to enjoy these things even when you are a parent!
The first thing you need to do is find a good babysitter that you trust and have a “date night” at least twice a month. On that night, entrust your children in the care of the babysitter. Relax — the babysitter will do just fine. Other things you can do on non-date nights include spending a small portion of time visiting an online casino, watching the big race on television, or bowl on the Wii or Kinect. Invite friends over. You can still have your social life as a parent, just be flexible and creative.
